Pennsylvania permits the Sheriff of Carbon County to issue all License to Sell Precious Metals.
Anyone wishing to obtain a license to sell precious metals should complete the attached application and come to the Sheriff's Office to complete the process. A criminal background check will be completed and if cleared they will be issued the license for one year at a cost of $50.00. All applicants are required to have a valid Pennsylvania driver's license or Photo ID in order to process the application.
The Sheriff can revoke the license to sell precious metals at any time for any reason for violations under Title 73 Pa CS Chapter 27.

- Posting of ALL prices is required at sale site
- Must have legal receipts of all products purchased or sold
- Receipt retention is required to be maintained on record for 1 year
- Product retention of purchased or sold merchandise for 5 days is required after purchase/sale

NO SEARCH WARRANT is required by law for any law enforcement, including but not limited to federal, commonwealth, and municipal officials to have all precious metals available for inspection within the five working days in the course of their working law enforcement duties. All transactions must be recorded with the District Attorney’s Office of Carbon County by the next business day. Any violation of the act required by law is a misdemeanor of the Third Degree resulting in penalties prescribed under Chapter 27 of the Title 73 of the Pennsylvania Statute, Purchase and Sale of Precious Metals.
