The Sheriff’s Office is responsible for serving bench warrants for defendants within and outside of the County. If a defendant obtains charges for a crime and does not appear for court a warrant can be issued for their arrest. When a warrant is signed and issued by a Common Pleas Judge it then is sent to the Sheriff's Office to be processed . Once recorded and entered into our database a member from the Criminal Warrants Division will then begin researching the warrant to try an determine where the defendant is located. Often times defendants don't provide valid addresses or move and do not provide updated addresses to the court. As a result the Sheriff's Office is tasked with locating these wanted individuals. Once apprehended the defendant is taken to the Carbon County Correctional Facility awaiting their court appearance.
In early 2021 the Sheriff's Office enhanced their training and equipment to better ensure Officer Safety and began increasing our visibility in communities throughout the county. Since that time over 130 fugitives have been apprehended. The Sheriff's Office believes in soliciting help from the public and maintains an active Facebook page where wanted subjects are posted. Over 90 % of all warrant apprehensions are due, in large part, to confidential tips from the community.
